Objective
The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia organizes the 4-th European Conference "Luminescent Detectors and Transformers of Ionizing Radiation", LUMDETR '2000 in Riga, Latvia, August 21-24, 2000. The 4th Conference continues the traditions of the conferences held first in the Baltic states - Latvia (1991), Estonia (1994), Poland (1997) and by the decision of last conference LUMDETR '97 the next one - LUMDETR '2000 is carried out in Riga. The topic of the LUMDETR '2000 is of interest to a wider scientific community and will bring together the leading and well-known specialists around the Europe as well as of other countries in the fields of luminescence processes, physics and chemistry of luminescent phosphors, scintillators, dosimetry and transformers of ionizing radiation. The LUMDETR '2000 is planned as a High-Level Scientific Conference with the focused theme at the cutting edge of research fields - solid state physics and chemistry, physics and technology of luminescent detectors and transformers of ionizing radiation. Lectures read by the invited keynote speakers will introduce the main topics of the Conference. Most of the time will be reserved for scientific exchange on current work in the form of oral, poster presentations and brief communications between the keynote speakers and young researchers.
Oral and poster sessions during the Conference will be devoted to the following scientific topics: - fundamental problems of radioluminescence, radiation energy storage and read-out processes via photo- and thermoluminescence in solids, - physics and chemistry of luminescence materials used for detectors and transformers of ionizing radiation, - new application aspects of scintillators, dosimeters, and transformers of ionizing radiation, - luminescent minerals and their applications in dosimetry and paleodosimetry.
