Objective

The workshop aims at analysing the so far still unsolved and ever growing problems of violations of personality rights by the media. Concrete European solutions are to be formulated. The workshop will appear as part of a European-wide effort towards a common protection of personality rights. The subject will be approached and investigated from all the relevant points of view of the fields involved. The workshop will be held at the course of three days.

On the first day the theoretical foundation to the subject will be set out by representatives of the areas of civil law, criminal law and science of the media. This will give the multidisciplinary background to all the participants. The second day will give an overview on the European and international state-of-the-art. On the third day the workshop will highlight the practitioners contrasting points of view.

The schedule of the workshop allows for extensive discussions and enables especially the young researchers to get in touch with the keynote speakers. Greifswald as sight of one of the oldest German universities was chosen as a location for the workshop because it is situated in the centre of Europe regarding the newly achieved extension of the European Community to Scandinavien countries.
