Euro phd summer school

Objective

The project is for a second of Euro Summer Schools (2002-4) entitled "Communication: Media, Social Interactions and Social Representations" continuing the 1995-2000 cycle on "Social Representations and Communication". These international intensive high level didactic stages are an essential part of the research training of post-graduate students enrolled in the European PhD on S.R.&C. and Marie Curie Fellows, and are open to a selected number of young researchers of any country.

The aim of the new cycle of Euro Summer Schools is:

- To widen participants' knowledge of the theories, methodologies and applications of Communication Studies in relation to the Social Representations paradigm,

- To develop technological knowledge about communication and interaction in 'face to face', mediated and virtual contexts,

- To provide multidisciplinary and multi-methodological research training for participants,

- To maintain the Summer School's role as the leading European forum for state of the art research and research training.

As regards scientific content, the International Summer School offers critical analysis and discussion of the relations between communication, the media, interaction, languages and Social Representations. It will examine the methodological consequences of different theoretical models and what is added to them when social psychological empirical research on communication is examined in the light of sociology, mass communication, socio-semiotics, symbolic anthropology and organisational studies.

First year programme content deals with the specific topics of "Media and Social Representations" and concentrates on developing a multidisciplinary theoretical framework. The second year deals with "contents, contexts and social influence" and the third year with "Nets and Internet". Each year develops the link with academia and industry. The highlights of each year's agenda are undoubtedly the key conferences given by international experts from related fields.

The International Summer School will also develop technological knowledge about communication and interaction with participation by experts from industry and enterprise with long-term experience in European distance education and advanced training in multidisciplinary fields.
