Objective
The 2002 BCAT (Barcelona Conference on Algebraic Topology) will present the current state and prospects of homotopy theory and some of its relations with other disciplines. The Conference will cover various aspects of stable and unstable homotopy theory, including models for homotopy categories, homotopy theory of schemes, generalisations of Lie groups, topological Hochschild homology, K-theory, localisation, and other themes, together with connections with neighbour fields such as conformal field theory and compact group representation theory. The BCAT series started in 1982 and continued every fourth year since then. Springer and Birkhäuser published proceedings books. The 1998 BCAT was a Euro Conference. Three recognised experts (lb Madsen, Haynes Miller, Graeme Segal) have been invited to give each a two-hour structured survey of a major topic, aiming to summarise past developments and discuss expected trends and problems for the coming years. In addition, six specialists will give one-hour lectures related with the main survey topics, and they will also act as an advisory committee in charge to coordinate sub seminars and select short talks proposed by other participants. Young researchers will be encouraged to participate at the Conference and submit abstracts for short talks.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
