Cosyma

Objective

In the past few years, complex systems and materials has become a major interdisciplinary scientific field involving physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics, medicine and social sciences like economy. The role of statistical physics in this new field of science and technology has been accelerating; in particular many different phenomena and processes (considered in the past as belonging to separate research fields) have now a common description.

Methods developed for studying order phenomena in simple systems have been generalized to more complex forms of matter (polymers, biological macromolecules, glasses, etc.) and complex processes (e.g. chaos, turbulence, economy, jamming, biological functionalities). Pillars of such a description are scaling and universality. The aims of the proposed School are to provide an actual overview of the field and a more detailed examination of those topics within the field that are currently of interest in science and technology.

The main objective of the School are: to educate the students in the concepts and specifics of this new interdisciplinary field of complex systems, to promote the formation and qualification of young researchers and their international collaborations, and foster the development of the actual knowledge in science and technology.
