Objective
The project will improve the skill of the regional model and allows a better exploitation of the oceanographic data gathered. As a final result the Oceangraphy Group (OG) at the IMC expects to develop a data assimilation scheme for regional ocean models, for both scientific and applied purposes. Subsequently models will be used for various purposes, such as: learning how to constrain and constraining shelf models; building initial conditions for climate prediction in the Algero-Provençal basin; using as a reference for more sophisticated data assimilation tools; testing the impact of new datasets in the perspective of new projects such as the follow up of the MFS project and MAMA- II.Implementation of a such research competence will reinforce and improve the scientific capability of the OG.These capabilities will be further exploited also for the training on the job of researchers from Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Countries to be implemented for the MAMA project (2001-2004).The technique will be developed also for the shelf and the coastal area where all the major marine activities are concentrated. Preservation, pollution control and efficient exploitation of these areas are therefore particularly important with an undoubted direct positive impact on local social and economical activities in a "less-favouredregion " of the Community.Implementation...
