Development of mass-spectrometry based methods for protein micro-analysis.

Objective

The Biomedical Sciences Research Centre "Alexander Fleming", situated in Vari, just south of Athens, is offering one post-doctoral position as a Marie Curie Development Host. The Centre is an independent institution housed in an excellent, well-equipped building. An international atmosphere is strongly encouraged and the Centre makes its facilities available for training of both Greek and international graduate students and post-doctoral scientists. We seek to employ a fellow with a strong background in protein biochemistry, with particular emphasis on the development of mass-spectroscopy techniques for the identification and characterization of very small amounts of protein. The fellow will be expected to develop techniques for the separation of proteins with two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, analysis of post-translational modifications, such as phosphorylation, use of nanospray infusion for the analysis of protein digests by mass spectrometry and identification of proteins by aminoacidsequencing and database searching. The projects in which these techniques will be applied include the study of intracellular pathways initiated by growth factor receptors, signal-transduction by receptors of the Epstein-Barr virus and the study of the components of the enhance some that directs transcription of inducible genes. The fellows will benefit from training in other modern biochemical techniques, such as the analysis of macromolecular interactions using biosensors. Our Centre is an equal opportunities employer and women in particular are encouraged to apply. Applications including a CV and the names of two referees should be addressed to: B.S.R.C. "A. Fleming", 14-16 Fleming St., Vari 166 72,Greece. For informal enquiries contact Dr. G. Panayotou, tel: (30-1) 9656311, fax:(30-1) 9653934, e-mail: g.panayotou@fleming.gr

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
