Objetivo
Within the research project "new bulk metallic glasses and composites" we seek for three research fellows with competence in the following areas:
1) Phase formation and microstructure optimization of bulk glasses and composites The research fellow is expected to conduct phase diagram calculations/phase field modeling as well as modeling of nucleation and growth processes of the competing phases upon cooling from the melt in Zr-based bulk glass forming alloys. The applicant should hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science or Physics and should be capable to develop a model-based description of the microstructure formed upon solidification.
2) Modeling of mechanical properties Competence is sought in the field of modeling of the deformation behavior of metallic materials. This knowledge should be applied on new bulk metallic glasses and composites. Particular emphasis should be given to the implementation of finite element methods to develop a micro structurally based description of the deformation behavior and of fracture mechanisms. The successful applicant should hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science or Engineering.
3) Local corrosion behavior / hydrogen embrittlement This topic requires a research fellow with expertise in corrosion processes combined with mechanical testing methods, especially in the submicroscopical scale. Extended understanding and general theories for localized corrosion and pitting and stress corrosion cracking combined with basic knowledge in mechanical properties and metal physics is required. A Ph.D. degree in the fields of metal Physics or Physical Chemistry is desired.
