Oxetane amino acids- towards new artificial antibiotics and biopolymers

Objective

Carbohydrate scaffolds offer a large family of monomers with the ability to tune predisposition towards specific secondary structures. This project will investigate the potential for conformational control in small molecules by four membered (oxetane) rings. This project will study the efficient synthesis of monomers containing oxetane moieties, both as didpetide isosteres and as beta-amino amino building blocks.

This will involve synthesis of monomers, well-defined preparation of ecologically friendly biopolymers, together with structural studies to determine the outcome of the synthetic work. Collaboration will include the incorporation of oxetane determinants into combinatorial libraries. Preliminary modeling shows that four ring structures are likely to be the best frameworks for the control of secondary structures in short sequences. There have been no reports of the use of four membered rings to control structural features.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
