Objective
The proposed research aims to elucidate the interatomic electronic correlations in two-electron systems (e.g. Mg, Ca, Sr) confined by a variety of potentials, such as those generated by fullerenes, carbon nontubes etc. This will be a step towards a more complete understanding of this properties of confined atomic systems. The research will build on past experience and existing computing know-how to develop a theoretical understanding of electronic correlations as manifested in double photoionization, photo excitation of auto ionizing (AI) states, photoelectron angular distributions and other quantities particularly sensitive to the electronic correlation. The powerful computing techniques developed at the host institution for the study of atoms and molecules and their various interactions (finite elements approach, B-splines) are ideally adapted to the study of confined systems. Therefore, state-of-the art computational know-how would be also transferred that could be later applied to other studies in atomic and molecular interactions to be performed at the home institution. The results on the confined atoms will prompt experimental investigations at the home institution and elsewhere that will enhance our understanding of the properties of the confined atoms and will help in identifying confined atomic systems with potentially interesting applications.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
