Objective
The objective of the planned activity is to improve the combustion/gasification behavior of a number of agroresidues & wastes with Worldwide importance, such as wheat straw, olive residue, peach stones, grass, meat and bone meal during combustion and gasification in a fluidized bed reactor. In specific the following tasks will be studied:
1) The effect of various pretreatment techniques (leaching, fractionation, pressing, etc.) on the beneficiation of the residues & wastes ash behavior during combustion and gasification in a fluidized bed reactor using various inert bed materials such as silica sand, dolomite, limestone, aluminum sand, followed by simultaneous modeling of the fluidized bed reactor using the produced experimental results
2) The evolution of alkali metals, chlorine, sulfur and nitrogen during the various steps of the combustion/gasification reactions in order to identify and evaluate the role of these substances to the formation of both ash-related problems and also harmful effluents such as NOx, SOx, and particulates followed by the development of a mathematical model to describe the whole process.
