'vaccines for diseases prevalent in the developing world'

Objective

GlaxoSmithKline is a research-based company whose people are committed to fighting disease by bringing innovative medicines and vaccines to patients throughout the world and to healthcare providers who serve them. Employing over 100,000 people worldwide GSK has an annual Research and Development budget of £2.4 billion and has major Research sites in the US and Europe. One of the major UK sites is at Stevenage which is the home for the Immuno-therapeutics Department within the Discovery Research Division. Within this Department there are three vacancies for EU fellows working in the area of DNA vaccination against diseases which are prevalent in the developing world including HIV and TB. The programme will provide opportunities for training in a variety of disciplines including molecular biology, cellular immunology and in vivo biology. The GSK Medicines Research Centre at Stevenage is a modern research facility that provides an excellent environment for research training. EU fellows will be fully integrated into ongoing programmes. The focus of the fellow’s projects will be the investigation of strategies:
- a. to overcome immune deviation in chronic disease by vaccination
b. to develop cross-reactive vaccines for highly variable pathogens
The fellowships are for two years and whilst at GW the fellows will be eligible to attend a range of training courses that will complement their scientific training.
