Objective
The objective of this programme, called DIPTy - WASTE, is to develop efficient tools for the management of a specific waste stream: hydrocarbon sludges. Hydrocarbon sludges originate from varied sources: washing of hydrocarbon separators, car-wash services, sewerage cleaning following a hydrocarbon spill, and the cleaning of fuel oil tanks. The waste considered is a liquid effluent. Its composition varies considerably according to it source: quantity of water, type of hydrocarbons and presence of solid matter. Its collection is performed by operators such as SARP that guarantees their safe collection, handling and disposal. SARP in France alone collects over 50 000 tons/year of these wastes. The proposed programme will be divided in three phases: - Characterization of the specific waste stream- Technical solutions - Pilot-scale study
