Cell-specific delivery in therapeutics: application of the universal linkage system(uls) in the design of targeted drugs.

Objective

The Marie-Curie fellows will learn through research at KREATECH Biotechnology BV, at the Department of Pharmacokinetics and Drug Delivery (PK&DD) of the University of Groningen, and at the Leiden Institute for Chemistry (LIC) of the Leiden University in The Netherlands. The Department of PK&DD is highly skilled and experienced in the development of targeted drugs and in in-vitro and in-vivo testing of these drugs. The LIC is highly skilled and experienced in (in)organic combinatorial chemistry. All laboratories are modern and with state-of-the-art equipment. All institutes are (inter) nationally highly acknowledged and have extended (scientific) networks, both national and international. Moreover, all institutes have broad experience in guiding and teaching fellows at all scientific levels. KREATECH is a biotechnology industrial organization with patents on the Universal Linkage System (ULS^(R)) and Mycobacterium diagnostics (ABC). KREATECH has broad knowledge of the biochemical and biological properties of ULS^(R) and on the development and production of biochemicals and diagnostical based on these patents. In this project, ULS^(R) will be applied in the design of targeted drugs. The problem of cell-specific drug delivery will be tackled through biochemical and biomedical research at two fronts:
1) the linkage of small chemical drugs that cannot be linked to homing devices by conventional chemistry, and
2) the linkage of bio-active therapeutic peptides to carrier proteins through a drug-releasing bond (release at target site). The developed drug prototypes will be tested both in-vitro and in-vivo.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
