Objective
University of Tuebingen, Department of Medical Physics. MARIE CURIE TRAINING SITE Medical Radiation Physics The University of Tuebingen, Department of Medical Physics, is offering training and research opportunities for PH.D. Students in Medical Radiation Physics. A total of72 months with individual contracts up to 12 months are available. Previous experience in Medical Radiation Physics is not a prerequisite. Applications are invited from European students registered for doctoral studies in universities outside Germany, to undertake short research projects and training in state-of-the-art techniques in one of the following Biomedical Physics Research Groups of our department: Monte-Carlo Simulation & Dosimetry Group: Modeling the radiation head of linear accelerators, investigating beam limiting devices and modifiers, dosimetric verification of Monte-Carlo simulations, Monte-Carlo dose calculation in protontherapy. Radiation Treatment Optimization Group: Linked to the current HYPERION project optimizing MLC-sequencer, modeling dynamic treatment techniques (IMAT); developing and experimental verification of a probabilistic model to simulate soft tissue deformation under constraints of physiological organ movement. Further informations for applicants and eligibility requirements can be found at: http://cordis.europa.eu/improving/calls/mcft 199901.htmOur Department has been specialized in the development of new methods to be applied in conformal radiation therapy (CRT) of cancer patients (http://www.medizin.uni-tuebingen.de/medphys/(opens in new window)). To enhance the tumor dose and concomitantly minimize the radio toxicity to normal tissue novel optimization approaches are pursued covering physical, biological and technical aspects of most recent treatment techniques. Uncertainties as patient positioning, inter- and intrafractional tumor and organ movements, displacements and deformation limit the radio therapeutic result. Applying intensity modulated beam (IMRT) technology a new concept based on image guidance of each treatment session and consecutive adaptation of the treatment delivery to the initial prescription is to be developed. Furthermore, alternatively to photon beams optimization concepts in proton therapy are investigated. In the framework of our project of image guided radiotherapy (IGRT) the focus of our research is on Monte Carlo simulation, biological modeling, computational optimization methods, image processing and dosimetry. The University of Tuebingen is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications by women.
