Objective
Applications are invited from doctoral students registered in another EU country or associated state to work for between 3 and 12 months in the Developmental Genetics Training Site in the School of Biological Sciences, at the University of Sussex, in the United Kingdom. Opportunities exist for Fellows to experience training in functional genomics within developmental biology, using genetic technologies in the insect Drosophila melanogaster This programme will support Fellows with existing expertise in the developmental biology of this system, but also those having skills in other aspects of this system (for example in toxicology or ecology), or those working with homologous genes in vertebrate development including human medicine, as well as trainees within SMEs that have interests in formulating diagnostics for gene expression and dysfunction. Three alternative experimental systems are available: neural connectivity in developmental neuroscience, the Transduction mechanisms and integration of cell signaling systems active during development, and the molecular events underlying spatial patterning during appendage fonnation. Fellows will use contemporary molecular genetic technology or RNA profiling to investigate specific gene function, and will gain experience in advanced confocal microscopy and image analysis. Applicants should contact Dr J R S Whittle, Developmental Genetics Group, School of Biological Sciences, The University of Sussex, Brighton BN1 9QG, The United Kingdom.
