Chemical communication in insects

Objective

CCI proposes a pluridisciplinary formation in the study of insect chemical communication. The composition of the volatile or sapid signals, the processes of stimulus detection and sensory coding, and the behavioral responses are considered. CCI gives to the fellows an unique opportunity to learn and to use in a single place the various techniques related to chemical communication and chemical ecology. CCI makes available to the fellow a large set of research facilities, including electrophysiology set ups, biochemistry and molecular biology laboratories, electron microscopes, wind tunnels and olfactometers for behavioral studies, analytical chemistry equipment. Thus, insect communication may be considered from the animal to the molecule. Through our programs we have gained experience on various insect species (Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, Heteroptera), from temperate or tropical countries. Fellows having a PhD project in the field related to insect behavior, insect neurophysiology, molecular biology, and analyses of volatile molecules acting on insect behavior, can apply and find in CCI outstanding tools for an integrated research. CCI is located in the most important INRA centre connected with universities of Paris and Versailles and engineering schools like INA-PG (Institut National Agronomique-Paris-Grignon). Housing facilities are available on the campus. The INRA centre of Versailles regroups a staff of 906 persons, and welcomes 780 student trainees each year. It is situated close to Paris and the Versailles Palace, and provides an pleasant and stimulating environment.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
