Site for training in transport economics, policy and appraisal

Objective

Would you like to be part of research excellence in Transport Economics, Policy and Appraisal? Applications are invited from PhD research students registered outside the UK wishing to spend part of their study within the Economics, Policy and Appraisal research group at the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS), University of Leeds, UK. This is one of the foremost groups within the field in the UK, with a research income of 5m Euros over the last 4 years. ITS is a leading UK interdisciplinary transport research Institute involved in a wide range of teaching and research. The quality of research is confirmed by its achievement of the highest rating (Grade 5*) for research (1996 Research Assessment Exercise), Fellows will be encouraged to develop their own research themes that are likely to be linked to one of the following areas: transport policy making, the role of transport charging, taxation and subsidy, transport project appraisal, financial appraisal and cost-benefit analysis, valuation of costs and benefits, design and effectiveness of demand management measures, policies for sustainable planning and transport demand forecasting methods. As part of the EU funded Marie Curie Fellowship scheme, visits normally last for 6 months. Specific benefits and facilities available to Fellows include: an opportunity to learn domain specific and research skills from staff at the forefront of developments at both national and international levels, the support of an established international postgraduate student community, outstanding research library and other University of Leeds facilities, seminars, workshops, taught modules and short courses of international reputation, University provided training in research related and generic skills likely to be of long-term career benefit to Fellows. Applicants should be nationals ( or resided for 5 years) within a Member or Associated State. A good standard of English is required (IELTS 5.5 or similar). The EU provides basic subsistence costs.
