Objective
The European Research Institute at the University of Birmingham opened in 2001 and is a national centre of Excellence. The Institute hosts the largest concentration of academic expertise in the UK working in the field of European Studies. Housed in a new purpose-built facility, the ERI has unparalleled research resources and facilities and is dedicated solely to producing high quality research and to training graduate students in the field of European Studies. The ERI has a broad interdisciplinary research programme based around three key priority themes: 'Organizing Europe' -which focuses on the political, economic and security institutional frameworks in Europe and specifically the enhancement and deepening of the EU's competencies; 'Enlargements' - which examines the complex and multifaceted processes of the extension of Western European institutional arrangements and 'Comparative Governance' - which considers the changing role and functions of the state in the context of Globalization. Fellows at the training site will be fully integrated into all aspects of life at the ERI and will benefit from the interdisciplinary nature of the institute, they will receive intensive supervision from senior academics in their field as well as a tailor made course in research training to fit their doctoral studies The ERI is a young and dynamic research institute with a vibrant research culture and thriving international postgraduate community engaged in research on all aspects of European studies. Candidates for a Marie Curie Fellowship at the ERI should have a Masters Degree or equivalent and have been engaged in doctoral research for at least 12 months. Candidates should also meet the University's English language requirements.
