Marine cybernetics - modelling and control of hydroelastic structures

Objective

Fellowships are offered on research related to Marine Cybernetics and Hydroelasticity at the Faculty of Marine Technology and the Department of Engineering Cybernetics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. The research covers both fundamental and applied activities. Marine Cybernetics and Hydroelasticity is multidisciplinary research and development program. This is addressing modeling and control of marine dynamical systems and hydroelastic structures in particular. Main objective of the research program is to create the necessary expertise and the technology basis to support the new advances, which have to be made in new configuration for sea transportation and offshore exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons at deep-water fields and marine biological and mineral resources. Typical industrial application areas are dynamically positioning of surface vessels, control of riser angle and tension, guidance navigation and control of ROVs and AUVs, underwater intervention and multibody marine operations. The research will take place at NTNU in close collaboration with Marintek (Sintef Group). The training site has access to laboratories for conducting model tests and computer simulations. The group consists of internationally recognized experts in the field of hydrodynamics, structural dynamics and control engineering. The research training offered will consist of carrying out courses and participating in on-going research programs. Applicants should have their background in Marine Technology & Naval Architecture, Control Engineering or Applied Mathematics. Particularly welcomed are applications from women.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
