Amphiphilic model networks: synthesis, charcterisation, modelling and applications

Objective

Marie Curie Training Site fellowships are available for Ph.D. students in Chemsitry (with synthetic skills), Physics (mathematical skills), the Biological or Environmental Sciences to work on one or more aspects of the synthesis, characterization, modeling and applications of amphiphilic model networks. Research training will be provided on the synthesis of water -compatible linear block and star copolymers of precise molecular weight using group transfer polymerization (GTP), and their in-site cross-linking to networks. Further training will be offered via the characterization of the produced networks in terms of their aqueous degree of swelling (as a function of pH and presence of inorganic salts), morphological behavior (via electron and polarized optical microscopy), and porosity and thermal properties. Research training will also be provided on the modeling of the networks using the appropriate set of thermodynamic equations programmed on a PC. The model can predict the degree of swelling of the networks and their ability to form microphases. The networks will also be evaluated as potential media for drug delivery and pollutant absorption, due to their property to lose or gain solutes and solvents. The selected fellows must be from an EU Member State and can stay at the Site for 3-12 months, with the 12-month period preferred. Applicants should send a CV and two letters of recommendation to Professor Costas S. Patrickios, Department of Chemistry, University of Cyprus, P.O. Box 20537, 1678 Nicosia, Cyprus The University of Cyprus is an equal opportunity organization.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
