Objetivo

Description:

The Infrastructure Cooperation Network FINUPHY includes: representatives of the 12 Research Infrastructures (RI) in Nuclear Physics supported by Researcher Access contracts under IHP; 6 representatives of their users; the Nuclear Physics European Collaboration Committee (NuPECC). It promotes collaboration and coordination between the RI in Nuclear Physics through regular plenary meetings and through Joint Scientific and Technological Activities and Studies. The latter include: mapping studies by NuPECC; investigation and improvements of the required instrumentation to be installed near Radioactive Nuclear Beam (RNB) facilities as are many RI of FINUPHY; the design of high-resolution multi-photon and electron-pair detection systems, to be used in the laboratories associated to the Light Ion Facility Europe (LIFE) network which are RI of FINUPHY; the study of the methods used to produce and investigate heavy and super heavy elements, as is carried out in several RI of FINUPHY ; the interdisciplinary uses of Nuclear Physics Large Scale Facilities as are the RI of FINUPHY; the elaboration of a general science view of the future directions and goals of Nuclear Physics, and in particular of those pursued in the RI of FINUPHY.

Three plenary meetings of the FINUPHY network occurred during the period October 1, 2000 to March 1, 2002: at Brugge, Belgium, on October 9-10, 2000; at Jülich, Germany, on May 21-22, 2001; at Bayeux, France, on October 15-16, 2001. Work is going on in the Joint Scientific and Technological Activities and Studies, mostly through meetings where the various aspects of these activities have been identified, the tasks of the different participating institutions have been defined and the progresses in these tasks have been reviewed. Information on and actions towards the possible extension of the FINUPHY network within the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) have also been discussed.
