Objective
Based on three years experience of large scale facilities activity, a network of TMR-funded social sciences data resource centre operators and users is proposed to facilitate co-ordination and sharing of the services, information and data of the research infrastructures in the social sciences and to enlarge, broaden and consolidate not only their own user base, but those of existing and potential infrastructures in the social sciences. This will be done by a programme of active exchange and through the implementation of web-based tools for information exchange and information access.
The particular expertise, resources and procedures as well as the technical and conceptual tools of the four major centres will be identified and built upon. Guidelines of Best Practice will be produced and disseminated, to aid the development of a broader research base, and enable the building of bridges between the different institutions within it to create a common platform from which the sharing of data and resources will be easier and more economical. Annual meetings with representatives and users of different social research infrastructures in Europe and abroad will inform the work of the Network and provide a conduit for dissemination of its results.
