Objectif
Description:
The Centre for Biomedical Functional Imaging is an integrated biomedical imaging facility run by the University of Aberdeen and located on the site of the Grampian University Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the largest single-site acute hospitals in Europe. The facility is based on the core concepts that the future of imaging lies in quantitative functional imaging, rather than the traditional approach of largely qualitative anatomical imaging, and that there is a need to explore and exploit the research potential of the information gathered from different types of imaging techniques in an integrated way. The Centre's imaging strategy is based around the 5 main imaging modalities of positron emission tomography, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance imaging, free radical imaging and ophthalmic imaging. It is one of the few in the world in which they are not fragmented between different research groups or institutions. One of the Centre's fundamental strengths is that the facility is not simply based upon utilising existing imaging techniques, but that it is also active at the leading edge of developing new forms of imaging technology and image analysis.

Applications should be made on-line available from the web page or in hard copy via the project manager. Calls for proposals are published in Nature, New Scientist and in Cordis Focus. The User Selection Panel is chaired by Professor P Sharp (University of Aberdeen). Users applications are graded according to: the quality of the proposed research the feasibility of the experiments originality of the project the interest of the European community duration and scale of the project
Priority will be given to: teams who have not previously used the facility young researchers research that fits with that currently being carried out in the Centre.
