Objectif
Description:
The Frankfurt University Centre for Biomolecular NMR which is operated by the Institute of Biophysical Chemistry and the Institute of Organic Chemistry was opened on 1 February 1996. The main purpose of the facility with respect to structural genomics is the determination of solution structures of proteins and nucleic acids using multidimensional NMR and EPR spectroscopy. Within the facility access is available to the following installations:

- DRX 800 MHz
- Avance 800 MHz with cryoprobe
- Avance 700 MHz,
- DMX 600 MHz with cryoprobe
- DRX 600 MHz
- DRX 600 MHz
- DRX 600 MHz
- Avance 600 MHz WB for solid-state NMR
- DRX 500 MHz
- DMX 500 MHz
- Avance 400 MHz WB for solid-state NMR
- DRX 400 MHz
- 3 GHz pulsed EPR
- 9 GHz pulsed EPR/ENDOR
- 9 GHz CW EPR/ENDOR
- 180 GHz pulsed EPR
- 35 GHZ pulsed EPR/ENDOR
- 180 GHZ CW EPR spectrometer.
- Available are also workstations and other computer facilities,
- fermentation and biochemical installations for stable isotope enrichment including the cell-free protein production. The minimum of access offered will be 195 NMR and EPR spectrometer days for a period of 2 years. This access will be provided free of all charge to the user groups given access to the facility and will include all infrastructural, logistical, technical and scientific support (including training courses) that is normally provided to external users of the facility.
Application:
Formal proposals are required for alloting the measurement time on the NMR and EPR spectrometers and provide the computational, technical and personal support needed. The proposal has to be sent together with a formal letter of application and the completed form for the pre-screening committee to Prof. Heinz Rueterjans (forms may be reproduced from the homepage). The preselection committee includes the supervisors of the various resources in the facility. This committee will screen the proposal on technical feasibility and give a preliminary advice on the type of equipment to be used. In case the proposal is not clear or should be revised in order to be eligible for the use of the facility the committee members will contact the proposer to strengthen the proposal. After the pre-screening the proposal is forwarded to the members of the expert panel.
This international panel consists of: Profs Bertini, Campbell, Griesinger, ForsFn, Kaptein, Kessler, Rueterjans, Seelig.After a positive decision the proposal will be forwarded to the European Commission for final approval. The available support for the research includes financial support for travel and subsistence of the researcher from the visiting laboratory. No financial support is available for the materials to be investigated. Guidelines for Group Leaders of supported projects for reports and publications can be obtained from the homepage.
