The analysis of international capital markets: understanding europe's role in the global economy

Objective

Our comprehensive approach to the analysis of international capital markets draws on finance, tax, macroeconomics, trade, numerical calibration and econometrics. No single institution can offer world-class training in all these fields, and thus the network dimension is critical in providing young researchers with the diverse skills required to conduct research in this area. Moreover, this field is rapidly evolving and traditional courses do not reflect the excitement of recent research breakthroughs. The network will bring the young researchers to the cutting edge by close integration of the training and the research dimensions of the programme. The mixture of institutions in the network has been carefully designed to achieve balance across specializations. Training activities will include bilateral short visits by young researchers to other institutions in the network, to benefit from instruction and expertise not available in the host institution; mini-courses taught by senior members of the networks; internships in international organizations; participation in an annual workshop; and active involvement in the organization of network activities to promote the management skills required by successful researchers.
