Objective
The training programme addresses the rapidly growing need for personnel able to transfer newly emerging technologies, based on coherent radiation and short-pulse lasers, from research laboratories to industry. It provides young researchers with vital knowledge of atomic-molecular-optical physics and physical chemistry, from complementary viewpoints of theory and experiment. The programme is implemented by their active participation in research, seminar series involving mutual visits of lecturers from partner laboratories, and the mandatory exchange programme, requiring residence for at least one out of twelve months in another partner laboratory, to maximize benefit from the complementarity and multi-disciplinarily of the network. It is also implemented, where possible, by their active involvement in collaborations with industry, ongoing or planned; these provide the background and experience needed for efficient transfer of highly specialized know-how.
