Discrete random geometries: from solid state physics to quantum gravity

Objective

A comprehensive training program for the young postdoctoral researchers hired by the network sites will be instituted, consisting of short courses and instructional seminars from various team members. This is in addition to the 300 person months of research by training that has been budgeted for and will be carried out in the various teams which all have acknowledge expertise in their fields. We are fortunate to have access via two of the teams to the facilities of the Albert Einstein Institute (AEI) in Germany and the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) in Edinburgh that are well suited to a regular program of such meetings. It is also intended that post-docs hired by the network will spend extended periods at various sites other than their base site to further their training and acquisition of useful research techniques. Dr Renate Loll of the AEI will have special responsibility for encouraging the participation of women postdoctoral researchers.
