Membrane machineries for protein and solute transport through the bacteria cell envelope

Objective

This programme brings together laboratories with firmly established reputations in the biochemical and biophysical (partners 4 and 5), genetic and molecular biological (partners 1, 3 and 8) and structural (partners2, 6 and 7) analysis of bacterial membrane protein complexes. Because aspects of each project are amenable to analysis by several different approaches, we plan very frequent, long-term exchanges of junior scientists for training in other partner laboratories to increase familiarility with the different methodologies, to adapt them to the specific needs of individual projects and to resolve technical problems. The members of the network undertake to provide the highest possible standard of broad-based technical training and personal supervision of visiting scientists and to provide an excellent, multidisciplinary working environment conducive to efficient and rapid progress.
