Objective
Several precursors to the proposed network, including two multi-center doctoral consortia and three single-site programs, provide evidence that participants have a tested and effective approach to doctoral training visits already in place. Proven recruitment techniques guarantee appropriate participation for women and for trainees from outside the network, including accession countries. Predoctoral trainees generally will concentrate on training seminar programs. Postdoctoral trainees will have longer-term visiting research contracts with participants. In both cases, seminars and work groups will connect trainees in direct collaboration with senior researchers on specific subjects pursuing specific project objectives. Participants will provide training in languages as needed, in the conduct of research itself, in preparation of scientific reports, in presentation of results at workshops and other conferences, in co-authorship of published work, in resume writing and career placement.
