Objective
Researchers will gain experience in a range of disciplines and techniques, from microbiology/plant physiology to structural biology and chemistry. Studies of vitamin/cofactor synthesis fall under the heading of functional genomics and thus researchers will learn how to go from the gene to protein structure. In so doing they will be trained in a range of important skills including recombinant DNA technology, protein and metabolite isolation and purification, isotopic labeling, NMR, enzymology, protein crystallization and protein structure determination. Researchers will work in groups that are leaders in their respective fields, providing a stimulating and intellectual atmosphere. Researchers will be encouraged to develop their presentation and communication skills through regular Network Meetings and also by attendance at international conferences. The Network aims to develop free thinking scientists, able to think across discipline boundaries and capable of running their own independent research programmes.
