Objective
Our Network activities will be centered on ten young scientists, six post-doctoral researchers and four pre-doctoral students, financed by the EC funding. By working in the Network within a web of collaborations involving technologists of semiconductor photonic nano-structures, experts in modern spectroscopies and experimental opto-electronics, computer specialists, and theoreticians in solid-state physics and optics, these young scientists will be trained in a wide range of skills. This will not only make them highly employable in academic and. applied opto-electronics after the Network has ended, but also eminently suited for careers in European high-tech semiconductor and photonics companies and other industrial bodies. In order to ensure a strong collaborative Network and to intensify the training aspect, we will establish a bi-annual series of workshops, schools, and conferences that the young scientists will attend, along with other members of the Network. The young scientists will also be encouraged to take work visits to other institutes and universities within our Network, helping focus and coordinate the joint research activities.
