Objective
Our approach uses numerous techniques, so that the young scientists will be trained in many fields: we will push them to move readily between pure theory (concepts, mathematics), simulations (hands-on-experience on large, small, and special-purpose computers) and experiments (real experiments or fruitful dialogue with experimentalists), all in the context of one of the most dynamic fields of condensed matter. The training will be concentrated on the fundamental physical aspects, where the partners excel. However, this field has a huge potential for industrial applications including ceramics, opto-electronics, bio- and other soft materials. Within our groups we have ample contacts with industry and they will be used to improve the training. Workshops, schools and topical meetings will be crucial. Our young scientists will spend part of their time in two or more nodes to become familiar with a large variety of techniques.
