Objective
TV drama's huge audiences offer an unfulfilled potential to promote public awareness of science and technology but it has been slow to reflect a changing science based world. CASTED is a programme of activities to stimulate science and technology content in European TV drama. The objectives of CASTED are to spread good science TV drama in both fact and fiction and to stimulate new such TV dramas. The mechanisms are prizes, intellectual and financial help, publicity and new information channels. The results will be new TV drama proposals bearing on science and technology, writers and TV drama producers and broadcasters across Europe better informed on science and technology, and fresh screenings and hopefully, broadcasts of existing science based drama to new audiences all resulting in a more scientifically aware general public.
