Objective
For the Science and Technology Week 2002 we are envisaging a Europe-wide festival of events that bring together several different forms of science and several different forms of the arts. The aim is to create an almost unprecedented dialogue between the worlds of science and the arts. There will be parallel events in five different European countries - linked together through the common theme and a series of web casts and an interactive website. In this way, the events will reach a wide, pan-European audience and will attract significant media attention. The aim is to widen the public's interest in scientific concepts using media with which they feel more at home (e.g.art fashion or music). The five events are a new drama production in London, a science-art symposium in Lisbon, a musical performance at CERN, a fashion show in Rome and a video installation at ESTEC in the Netherlands. All of the events will have a strong scientific content. The "Signatures of the Invisible" exhibition has set a precedent between leading academic institutions of science and art. We are confident that this experience will induce a significant step forward of the public's understanding of science through art.
