Objective
A consortium of 11 European institutes including 7 countries proposes to undertake a study on the links between work organisation and performance including social dimension.
European SMEs are highly exposed to more and more concentred and fierce competition. At first glance, continuous innovation, developing and sharing new technologies, increased productivity seems to be adequate solutions. We think that the real source of Europe's competitive advantage lies in its capacity to do think differently, in a way that cannot be easily imitated by our competitors. The SMEs potential is not strong enough individually to face this substantial and structural change. It seems vital to build a public and European sphere of knowledge where a new common learning amongst employers, employees and social partners can take place. This network to build will also include policy makers.
