National corporate cultures and international competitiveness strategies - the challenge of globalisation for european smes.

Objective

Increasing economic Europeanisation and globalisation is putting the pressure of adjusting to rapidly changing conditions not only on large corporate groups but also on small and middle-sized enterprises (SMEs). Comparative international studies on Europeanisation and globalisation strategies in SMEs however do not yet exist. This omission is all the more serious when one considers that SMEs continue to be responsible for most of the production and employment in most industrialised countries in Europe. The proposed RTD-Project is intended to help close this gap by pursuing the following questions: Which strategies are being used by management in SMEs in Germany, France, Italy, Austria and the Netherlands to meet the challenges of the current push for economic Europeanisation and globalisation?
And what effects do these strategies have on the development of regional economic structures and on the corporate cultures and working climates in individual companies?
