From welfare to knowfare. a european approach to employment and gender mainstreaming in the knowledge based society.

Objective

The aim of the project is to assess policy approaches to the Knowledge Based Society (KBS) in the European Employment Strategy (EES). The focus will be on the extent to which these policies impose a convergence around a European approach to the KBS and achieve the objective of employment and gender equality in Europe. The research question is whether the transition towards the KES requires a change or in what is assumed to be the responsibility and rights of the individual, enterprise and the implications of such a change for gender mainstreaming. Moreover, the usefulness of existing indicators used to monitor employment progress in Europe will be evaluated and new sets of indicators developed to capture the challenges of the KBS from a gender perspective. The project will produce a European approach to employment and gender mainstreaming in the KBS as well as policy options to tackle the challenges of the KBS in the EES.
