Objective
This AM is designed as a workshop with associated preparatory and dissemination activities which will address a number of critical media and information issues both in member states and in the CEE - particularly the accession countries. It will draw, where applicable and possible, on relevant ongoing research being carried out for a number of existing projects, notably IDNET, EURONAT and EUROPUB. Within the EU, it will explore the role of the media in the development of public opinion, particularly in relation to the accession process. In relation to the CEE, and more particularly in the accession countries, it will explore the role of the media in the formation of public opinion on accession and other issues; the development of media policies, particularly as they relate to EU norm and expectations; and associated professional issues for media practitioners. In both areas it will identify appropriate responses and strategies.
