Insurance, technological risk and emerging science and technology policies

Objective

Technological innovation is one of the keys to sustainable development. The insurance sector, along with the State, plays a key role in managing technological risk. The aim of the project is to obtain a better understanding of the role which the insurance sector and insurance-based mechanisms can play in relation to innovation which promotes, or challenges, sustainable development.
The work will:
identify the past and present role of 'insurance';
explore the boundaries between insurance-based and other risk management mechanisms;
and develop policy options for promoting sustainable development and technological innovation through the complementary use of insurance-related and other risk management mechanisms.
A series of three workshops will share international expertise within and beyond the consortium, synthesising the insights of insurers, academics and policymakers. A synthesis report based on the final workshop will communicate findings and practical guidance to insurers and science and technology policymakers. Disseminate in peer-reviewed literature.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
