Potentials of interdisciplinary degree courses in engineering, information technology, natural and socio-economics sciences in a changing society

Objective

The need to address the under representation of women in the study and practice of engineering is the motivation for this proposal. The role interdisciplinary degree courses could play in the retention of women students and their progression to the labour market are examined, as is the acceptance of graduates from such degree courses in the work spheres. It is proposed to identify elements suitable for a methodology tool-box for future cross cultural equivalent comparative and empirical research By means of information gathering, discussions and expert interviews, a set of good-practice and suitable policy issues will be identified to form part recommendations emanating at the end of this project.
