Women's Scientific Careers. From a Member State, a "prototype" for Europe

Objective

Our proposal aims to promote the use of specific gender indicators to study the under-representation of women in scientific institutions and their careers following the recommendation of the ETAN Report. In the light of above, the Italian Report "Figlie di Minerva" (November 2000), which constitutes the first example of a complete analysis of the Italian public research bodies, is a good "model" for other European countries. The dissemination of the main results of the Italian Report at European level permits to gain a better allocation of human resources in the development of innovative research activities, represents an excellent basis for the activities of the Helsinki group and it is a tool to identify political actions to be taken at national and European level. First, those sections of the Italian study which may constitute a prototype to follow in European countries will be selected, having in mind the need of reshaping it for European audience; secondly they will translated into English and French
