Women in scientific and technical professions: a European meeting and a colloquium of the association "femmes et sciences" (women and science), Paris November 16th and 17th, 2001

Objective

The under-representation of women in Science and Engineering is a recognised European problem. This situation is a waste of talents and a particular nuisance in the present context of scientific workforce shortage. This proposal of the new French association " Femmes et Sciences " (F&S) (Women and Science) intends to contribute to the improvement of this situation by : i) raising the awareness of women scientists through European networking ; ii) increasing the knowledge of the science actors, policy-makers and the general public by production and dissemination of gender-disaggregated analyses. This will be initiated through a half-day European working meeting of women scientists associations and a one-day colloquium on Women in Scientific and Technical Professions (Paris, 16&17/11/2001). European permanent exchanges and new studies will then be pursued under F&S initiative.
