HYDROELECTRIC POWER STATION OF THE TOPINO RIVER " IL PASSAGIO" - BETTONA - PT

Objective

With the present project it is intended to produce electric energy through the implement of a mobile weir suitable to create the right head for the production of about 2,350,000 KWh/Y. The present project is part of a study which envisages the implement of other similar plants whose projects are in part registered at Umbria Region and in part are in course of drawing up. The plants planned in the study envisage in the aggregate an electric energy production of 13,000,000 KWh/y, which represents about 40% of Vetreria Cooperativa Piegarese annual requirements.
The innovative aspects are the saving in the civil works and the opportunity of exploiting to the utmost the variable flows of the river.

1. INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY :
The project choices which, in the aggregate certainly represent an innovative aspect in the electroturbine sector, aim principally at the following results :
a) safety of the plant also under situations of possible concomitance between failures with consequent total plant arrest and river discharges that might cause the opening of the gates lowered.
b) less cost and nearly total reduction of the impact caused by the construction of the machine building. normally, in the traditional run-of-river plants, to protect the electric generators from the frequent floods, structure are built above submerged turbines rising, as the case requires, for several metres above ground. With project solution the problem does not exist in that the generator-turbine unit, is immersed in the water with it and, thus no structure emerges above the ground.
2. CONTEXT :
The hydroelectric power station will be located at "Il passagio" locality, within the Municipality of Bettona (Perugia) with the intake placed on Topino river, at about 250 m upstream of its confluence with Chiasco river, where will be located even the free-room of the electroturbine which will be coupled to the intake by means of a dug-in conveyance canal.
3. ECONOMIC ASPECTS :
In spite of the innovation the technology used does not involve an overcost compared to the conventional equipment, infacts the construction characteristics of the turbine-generator groups are such as to permit to reduce the installation costs of the civil works. 4. MONITORING :
The measurements concerning the plant yelds will be regularly registered. In particularly the flow, the head, the delivered power and the power factor will be checked contemporaneously. Furthermore the management costs of the plant will be periodically controlled reported to the investments costs.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
