HYDROELECTRIC MINIPLANT "LEVATA DE BOLENZANA"

Objective

Testing of two submerged mini-turbines minimizing number of blades on irrigation canal of 39 km length using a gross head of 3.6 nominal flow 74 cums 2x1 MW. Four similar sites should be equipped. Bulb Turbine of single regulation type-movable runner blades : optimization of the runner minimizing the number of blades and with appropriate choice of diffuser. Experimented technology using advanced measurements and diagnostics systems, image digital laser-doppler devices, pressure meas. etc in view of industrialisation of laboratory models.

Construction of a hydroelectric power station on the flow of an irrigation channel, located in the neighbouring of urban and rural communities and characterized by submerged turbine-generator units giving a total power of 2 MW.
The project was divided in 5 phases :
Phase 1 : Hydraulic machinery designing
Phase 2 : hydraulic machinery construction
phase 3 : Electromechanical and hydraulic construction. Civil works
PHase 4 : Erection and commissioning
Phase 5 : Tests and measurement campaign and evaluation of the results
The programmed activities are :
Phase 1 : Hydraulic profile design and fluido dynamic calculation. Mechanical design and calculation. Experieemntal check of hydraulic design with advanced measuremtns and diagnostics system on model test rig. Design of special instruemntation for runner blade. Supervision and interface between hydraulica, mechanical and civil design.
Phase 2 : Hydraulica machinery construction, assembly and checks.
Phase 3 : Electromechanical (speedincreaser, generator, transformer, boards...) and hydraulic (gates and drainage pumps...) construction. Civil works.
Phase 4 : Erection, start up and conventional commissioning. Optimization a machine - gate operation in order to minimize the wave in the channel.
Supervision at commissioning.
Phase 5 : Definition of technologies suitable for measuring the pressure on the blade in particular concerning the signal transmission and treating. Operating data acquisition and special instrumetation measuremnts. Evaluation of results. Supervision of special measureemnts.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
