Objective
Proposal to exploit the hydro potential of a water supply system without affecting the reliability of supply. To guarantee this, the horizontal Francis turbine (fed by a penstock of 13,7 km) is provided with a special bypass valve multiple jet to avoid waterhammer during sudden load changings and emergency shut-downs and to assure no interruption of water flow to the treatment plant. Innovation claimed for special application of a Francis for a relatively high head (85 m) and large flow (1000 LIS) without using conventional surge tank normally needed for protection against dangerous pressure rise in the penstock. Capacity: 668 kW, expected output (final stage): 5,592,000 kWh.
The project is operational. The energy output objectives are included in description. The elements it would set up are commercial equipments, whose right combination is an innovation, but patents aren't necessary.
1. INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY
The innovation consists of creating a small power plant at the end of a forced conduit for the water provision in the town, changing the available energy to electrical energy.
The big length of conduit causes typical problems of regulation due to the water hammer that would be caused by a fast closure.
The basic aspect of the project is the water provision and so, as Q and H are variable, the power and the run off are variable too.
2. THE CONTEXT IN WHICH THE TECHNOLOGY IS OPERATING
This system may be installed in the most water provisions that are working with forced conduits. The innovating aspects will be solved in this plant. VOITH and PONT-A-MOUSSON can deal with these equipments.
