Objective
Project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of using stand-alone induction generators in small isolated hydro schemes.
The generator has been successfully self-excited and stable three-phase voltage has been obtained. There is very good voltage and frequency regulation over widely varying flow and load conditions. Motive loads greater than 10% of the generator capacity should not be connected direct-on-line to the generator and unbalanced three-phase loads should be avoided. The control system has not suffered any technical faults.
A standard industrial squirrel cage induction machine will be self-excited by placing capacitors accross its terminals. Electronic governors will be used to regulate the electricity under widely varying load and flow conditions. The installed plant capacity will be able to handle a peak of 53 kW with a net head of approximately 10 meters and a peak design flow of approximately 900 l/s. There will be very large seasonable variations in flow. The control system is particularly suitable for developing countries.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
