Objective
To derive electric power from an existing water irrigation network. The anticipated annual energy output is 2,850,000 kWh.
Since 1990 when it was in order to work, the hydroelectric power station did not work because of two combined events :
- First, several periods of dryness especially in 1990 and 1992 kept out of work.
- Then, damages resulted from exceptional swellings of the river.
Now in good working order again but the dryness still does not permit to work.
An existing irrigation system is supplied from a dam at l'Ospedale, with the water level being topped up from the Asinao River, via a 400 mmm diameter pipe. To extract energy from this flow of irrigation water, a hydroelectric power station was installed at suitable site along the pipe.
The project includes the civil construction of the power station and the supply and installation of a turbine generating set, power factor correction capacitors, transmission transfomers, control and protection equipment.
