RECOVERY OF ENERGY FROM RELEASED WATER AND RESERVE FLOW FROM A FLOOD PROTECTION RESERVOIR

Objective

To demonstrate the exploitation of spill water and reserve flows released from a flood protection reservoir.

Surplus water released from time to time from a flood control reservoir, together with water released to maintain minimum required river flows are to be exploited by channeling them below thedam o two Francis turbines. The two turbines have capacities of 1. 1 m3/s, (for the flows) and 4. 4 m3/s, (for major flows).
The head is 30 m and their power outputs, (at the generators) are 300 kW and 1100 kW respectively. The electricity will be sold to the grid, allowing the use of asynchronous generators, and use of the reservoir means that turbining will be during peak periods as much as possible. Another advantage of the project is that monitoring of the reservoir level and the release of water will give better control of river flows and flowed control.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
