POLYOLEFINE PIPELINE AND INTAKE SYSTEM TO REDUCE INSTALLATION COSTS IN SMALL HYDR-ELECTRIC PLANT

Objective

To demonstrate both new design principles to reduce the cost of a polypropylene pipeline, and a new, low cost, easily replaceable, high density polyethylene intake and siphon-valve system.

Detailed analysis has indicated that polypropylene pipelines in hydro-electric applications may be safely operated under higher stresses than are currently accepted, resulting in a considerable reduction in installation costs. A polypropylene pipeline operating under higher stresses will be installed, and its performance closely monitored over a two year period.
In addition, a novel, easily replicable, floating intake design using High Density Polyethylene material and a siphon break valve will be installed, which will reduce design, construction and materials costs.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
